Does it really matter which ch school you attend? Absolutely!

Can't you get your certificate from any school?
Sure, but your certificate is only a part of the issue. Having a certificate from a school recognized for outstanding education is a great asset. Having one from the largest or oldest school doesn't mean much. WHAT you learn is determined by WHERE you learn it. Do an experiment. Call a few salons you think you'd be happy working in and ask them where you should go to school. Now try another. Find a salon you have no interest in working in, and call them and ask them where they went. That should pretty much take care of it for you.

Think about this... YOU are going to be entering an industry where there are already seasoned professionals. If you go to a school that only teaches basic skills, you are going to have less to offer than those seasoned professionals. This single reason is why it is so difficult to build a clientele when you first begin working as a hairdresser. You NEED to learn advanced skills while you are in beauty school, or you will not be able to compete. This is why we started our advanced training school.

Be careful what school owners tell you, and check to see that what they tell you is actually true! One school claims that they have the best student/teacher ratio in the state. We called around, and couldn't find one with a worse ratio. Try it! You would also think that they would also have the best state board exam pass rate  too wouldn't you? Why don't they? Ask them how they calculate the "student/teacher ratio".

Another school tells prospective students that you can graduate faster if you attend their school. We retrained one of their graduates that had wasted over a year and a half flunking both the state board written and practical exams three times at their school, on top of the training time. Does that seem fast to you? Their "fast" program took this student over two and a half years to pass the state board exam!


Recently one of the other school owners came up with a magic list that supposedly shows the cost of our equipment kit, and they are telling students that the shears ( 8340 Cobra) we sell in our kit that sell for $369 really cost only $40. This http://www.scissorguys.com/ is the official site of the maker of the shears we include in our kit. YOU check out the price for yourself, and when this owner tells you they only cost $40, tell them right there on the spot that you'll take a pair. That should be fun. Look for the #8340 stamped just below their name. When they can't come up with a pair, you'll pretty much know what to think about everything else they have lied to you about! Check it out for yourselves!

Some other questions to ask.

Has your school ever been sued?

Can you accept Alaska Student Loans? (If not, why not?)

What is your placement rate?

What is your state board exam written exam rate?

What is your state board practical exam rate?
            
(After they answer these questions, check out their answers with the board of barbers and hairdressers,
and post secondary commission on education.)
